Dennis was born and raised in Montrose, Colorado. He was an outstanding leader and athlete in high school.  He received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1972 from the University of Colorado School of Business, Masters degree in Public Administration from CU, and law degree from Pepperdine University in 1976.  He chose to return to Montrose, where he has spent the last 35 years giving back to the community through various organizations that include The Salvation Army, Montrose Education Foundation, Montrose Rotary Club and HopeWest. He met his wife, Kathy, while both were students at CU, and has two adult children, Matthew and Laura.  

In his private law practice, Dennis was able to fulfill his desire to help people.  His goal in practicing law was to assist individuals with their specific needs, whether that relates to estate planning, probates, real estate transactions, dispute resolution, or other areas related to his expertise

Dennis thrived on making Montrose, Colorado a better place to live now and for future generations. His vision helped create the Montrose Pavilion, the Academic Booster Club and the Montrose Education Foundation. His tireless community involvement included Rotary, the Montrose Chamber of Commerce, the Red Coats, the Salvation Army, the United Methodist Church, and the Grand Mesa Christian Association Methodist Camp. During his 24 years of practicing law, he was able to fulfill his continual desire to help people. 

Dennis loved to travel around the world. However, his favorite places were the southwest Colorado mountains and the Utah canyon country where he enjoyed hiking, fishing, hunting, rafting, exploring and being with family.
